Job Title: Associate Director, Field Medical Engagement Strategy & Operations- Vaccines
Location: Remote
About the Job:
Sanofi's US Field Medical Vaccines team is seeking an Associate Director, Field Scientific Engagement Strategy & Operations to serve as the execution architect for our Scientific Engagement Strategy, Innovation, and Operations team. This is a leadership role for someone who doesn't just want to run a system — they want to build one that didn't exist before.
This role translates strategic vision into scalable field operating systems — turning direction set by the Director and medical leadership into the processes, tools, and infrastructure that allow Sanofi's Vaccines Field Medical team to execute with consistency, speed, and measurable impact. The AD in this role expands the organization's execution capacity, enabling the Director and leadership team to focus on strategic direction by owning the operational infrastructure that makes strategy real. This is a role for a high-performing MSL or field medical professional ready to step into a cross-functional strategic execution leadership position — without leaving the science behind.
Join the team protecting half a billion lives every year with next-gen science, mRNA innovation, and AI-driven breakthroughs. In Vaccines, you’ll help advance prevention on a global scale - and shape the future of immunization.
About Sanofi:
We’re an R&D-driven, AI-powered biopharma company committed to improving people’s lives and delivering compelling growth. Our deep understanding of the immune system – and innovative pipeline – enables us to invent medicines and vaccines that treat and protect millions of people around the world. Together, we chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Execution & Field Process Integration
Translate strategic direction from the Director and medical leadership into field-level execution models — defining how priorities flow through field engagement processes and ensuring that strategy becomes action at every level of the organization
Design, implement, and continuously refine field execution processes and operating systems — including engagement planning workflows, interaction capture processes, and field team operating rhythms — that enable consistent, high-quality scientific engagement at scale
Operationalize AI and digital tools for field engagement execution — including AI-assisted engagement planning and digital-first interaction models — within the technology direction set by NA Medical leadership, serving as the field execution lead for tool adoption and integration
Develop and maintain field execution playbooks — standardized, franchise-agnostic frameworks for congresses, field engagement cycles, and key operational moments — that reduce reliance on institutional memory and enable repeatable excellence
Proactively identify structural gaps, process bottlenecks, and execution capability needs, surfacing recommendations to the Director before they become performance problems
Act as the Medical lead for planning of cross-functional field execution meetings — including Plan of Action (POA) and Train the Trainer events — shaping agenda, driving operational alignment, and elevating the quality of matrix ways of working as the operational lead
Congress Execution & Operational Coordination
Serve as the field operational execution lead for Sanofi's annual congress calendar — coordinating with Strategic Planners, franchise leads, OBM, FBM, and Global teams to ensure timely planning and flawless on-the-ground execution within the strategic framework set by the Director and Medical Strategy Lead
Own field congress execution timelines, logistics coordination, and operational outputs end-to-end — enabling field medical staff to focus on stakeholder engagement rather than operational management
Pilot new field congress execution approaches and engagement tactics — including digital-first interactions and innovative scientific programming formats — within the strategic framework set by leadership, and document outcomes for continuous improvement
Drive continuous process improvement across congress operations, including evaluation of external vendors and operational tools in partnership with the Medical Operations Manager
Track and report congress execution effectiveness using established operational metrics, providing field-level execution data to inform the Director's strategic decisions about congress investment and presence
Continuous Improvement & Innovation Piloting
Maintain and refine continuous improvement feedback loops specific to field execution processes — capturing what works, what doesn't, and why, and embedding those lessons into field team operations in alignment with the broader continuous improvement framework set by NA Medical leadership
Identify and pilot field execution best practices — drawing on benchmarks from leading field medical organizations — to strengthen Sanofi's engagement operations and position the team at the frontier of what Medical Affairs can be
Create and maintain a field execution innovation tracker — monitoring emerging engagement models, congress formats, and operational tools, and surfacing relevant opportunities to the Director and NA Medical leadership for roadmap consideration
Identify and eliminate process fragmentation, redundancy, and rework across field execution workflows — translating operational efficiency into measurable strategic capacity
Strategic Partnership & Insight
Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Director of Field Medical Operations and Medical Strategy — bringing forward-looking operational recommendations, emerging field execution trends, and proactive risk identification that enable the Director to lead strategically
Develop progress reports on field execution performance for the Director, supporting the NA Strategy, Innovation, and Performance Head reporting cadence to NA Medical leadership with clear, insight-driven narratives on execution quality, process adoption, and operational outcomes
Surface actionable field-level insights — including post-interaction performance patterns and next best actions for high-priority external interactions — to inform leadership decision-making
Support role clarity and operational maturity as teams grow and evolve, ensuring execution infrastructure keeps pace with the organization's strategic ambitions
About You:
Basic Requirements
Advanced degree (Master's, PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in Life Sciences, Public Health, Clinical Research, or a related discipline
4+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, field medical, or a related function within the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, or biotechnology industry

Demonstrated experience leading complex initiatives in cross-functional matrixed environments
Strong project and operational leadership skills with ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in vaccines or infectious disease Medical Affairs
Experience with congress planning, field medical operations, or medical affairs execution
Familiarity with AI tools or digital engagement models in a Medical Affairs context
Experience developing field execution playbooks or operational frameworks
